I have recently completed a Primary PGCE teaching course but am also considering a return to journalism and the communications industry.
I have considerable knowledge of Buckinghamshire and Aylesbury Vale in particular, having grown up and worked in the county for nearly ten years.
I worked for The Bucks Herald newspaper in Aylesbury for eight years from 2001 until 2009. I joined the paper as a trainee reporter. During my time at the paper, I ran a district office and also held the post of Local Government and Health Correspondent.
As well as generating off-diary copy, I reported on numerous stories of national significance including the July 7 bombings. I was also the first journalist in the country to report on the outbreak of Clostridium Difficile at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.
I spent the last eighteen months of my time at The Bucks Herald in the position of Assistant Editor and therefore gained valuable management experience. Responsibilities in this post included assigning reporters to cover stories, compiling the paper’s property editorial and updating the website.
After my teaching course completed, I worked on a freelance basis at the Surrey Herald from April to October 2011, at the Harrow Observer from October to November and at the Buckinghamshire Advertiser/Examiner from October until January this year.
